Frequently asked questions
Answers about TerraLab as a company and about using our QGIS plugins.
About TerraLab
- Yvann Barbot, Lilien Auger and Stéphane Barbot co-founded TerraLab. Yvann and Lilien are AI engineers trained at 42 Paris, and Stéphane, the CTO, brings 25 years in 3D and geospatial engines. Valérie Barbot advises the team on GIS.
- In Paris, France. The registered office is at 173 rue de Courcelles, 75017 Paris, France, and the team works from Station F.
- TerraLab SAS, SIREN 104501861, the French company that makes the AI Segmentation, AI Edit and AI Agent plugins for QGIS. Its website is terra-lab.ai.
- Yes. For objects the plugins do not detect well, we train a detection model on your imagery and your classes, check it on a sample you validate, and deliver the results as layers in QGIS. It starts with a call about your data.
- Yes, as a custom project quoted apart from the plugin plans. The standard plugins process imagery on our servers in Europe, and AI Segmentation's Semi-Auto mode also runs on your own machine for free.
- Yes. The plugin code is free software under the GNU GPL v2, published on GitHub and in the official QGIS plugin repository. The AI models run on TerraLab servers, which is what the Pro plans pay for.
- Yes, as custom work. TerraLab Twin, our real-time 3D geospatial engine, fuses LiDAR and orthoimagery into a territory you can move through. We use it for client projects that need 3D rather than selling it as a product.
Using TerraLab
- TerraLab builds AI tools for QGIS. We make plugins that automate map work, a map data app for ChatGPT and Claude, and 3D models of real places.
- Yes. Every QGIS plugin from TerraLab has a free tier and no credit card. Clicking an object to get its outline costs nothing when the model runs on your own machine, with no counter. Agent tasks, automatic detection and imagery edits use a monthly allowance that resets. Paid plans start when that allowance runs short. Try Pro free for 7 days: add a card, cancel before the end and nothing is charged.
- QGIS 3.22 or later (3.28 for AI Agent), on Windows, macOS or Linux. No GPU. The AI runs on our servers in Europe, so a standard work laptop is enough.
- Your imagery is stored on our servers in Europe, and AI Segmentation runs its detection there too. AI Edit sends what you select to an AI provider that may process it outside the European Union. We do not train any model on your imagery and we do not share it. AI Segmentation also has a mode that runs on your own machine, and then nothing leaves your computer. You can ask us to delete everything at any time.
- Yes. We offer geospatial AI consulting, custom plugin development, and enterprise integration. Contact us to discuss your specific needs.
- Email us, or use the report button inside the plugins. Messages are read and answered by the founders, usually within a day, whether you are on a free or a paid plan.
