About this tool
A list of coordinates as waypoints for your GPS. Free, and the file never leaves your browser.
How the conversion works
- Choose a .csv file, drop it on the page, or paste the table. Comma, semicolon and tab delimiters are all recognised.
- The page finds the latitude and longitude columns by name and writes one waypoint per row, with the name and description columns when there are some. A wkt column with lines becomes tracks.
- Download the .gpx and load it on the device or in the app: Garmin BaseCamp, OsmAnd, Komoot, Gaia GPS.
How each column is used
Header names are matched after lowercasing and stripping spaces and underscores.
| Column names recognised | Where it goes in the GPX |
|---|---|
| latitude, lat, y | The lat attribute of the waypoint. |
| longitude, lon, lng, x | The lon attribute of the waypoint. |
| name, title, label, id | The waypoint name. |
| description, desc, notes | The waypoint desc. |
| wkt | A LINESTRING becomes a track, a POLYGON a track along its outline. |
What it does not do
- Rows are not joined into a route. Each row is a waypoint; give a wkt LINESTRING to get a track.
- Other columns, an altitude column included, are not written: GPX here carries the name and the description.
- Coordinates must be in decimal degrees, WGS 84.
- Files up to 50 MB.
Frequently asked questions
Short answers to what people ask most.
Does my file get uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser tab. Nothing is sent, and closing the tab clears it.
Will my Garmin read it?
Yes. It is plain GPX 1.1. Copy the file to the Garmin's Newfiles folder, or import it in BaseCamp or Garmin Explore.
Can I make a route from my list of points?
Each row becomes a waypoint. To get a single track, put the line in a wkt column as LINESTRING, or load the points in QGIS and use Points to Path before exporting.
My file is in Excel. Can I use it?
Save it as CSV from Excel (File, Save As, CSV UTF-8), then drop it here.
